γλαύξ-יוֹנָה; a terracotta drinking cup and a stained-glass window; earthly wisdom and heavenly inspiration: in all of these things there is a type. Terracotta, glass, both come from earth: the one from earth is shaped and then fired, strengthened but fundamentally unchanged; the other is fundamentally changed, clarified through heat so great that liquid is forged of solid fragment; the one is beautiful but opaque, the other clear and illuminating. Earthly wisdom is formed of man, strengthened and hardened through the tests of time, but passing through them unchanged; but only by a fundamental change in who we are, passing through heat of fire so great that our internal selves are forged anew as though of liquid fire, may we attain to any portion of heavenly wisdom.
And yet we need the twain: man on earth unaided to heaven may not attain, yet heaven will not bestow on man what man himself may find on earth.
This website in general aspires, in some measure, to bring together the best of earthly intellect and wisdom with the inspiration of heaven as revealed through scripture and prophetic teaching, ancient and modern. In doing so we strive to find the truth amid the caucophony of voices all around; we strive to moderate extremism; we strive to, in Schiller's words, ‘‘binde[n] wieder, was die Mode streng geteilt’’; we strive to understand the path between contradictions, particularly in controversial matters. In doing so we do not shy away from any question, any idea, no matter how controversial.
The TRUTH, and nothing else, is our goal.
In ancient Greek, the word γλαύξ (glaux) refers to Athena's owl, and is a symbol of wisdom. יוֹנָה (yonah) is the Hebrew word for dove, a symbol of peace, and, in the Christian tradition, a symbol of the Holy Spirit sent down from God to enlighten mankind.
