I am in the process of working out overall course marks. In order to make sure that things go through as smoothly as possible, could I ask each of you to do the following at your earliest convenience?
-- If I have not responded to any requests for re-marks, other than that addressed below, please re-send them. (I apologise.) I do not believe there are any, but I would not want to miss one by accident.
-- Let me know if there are any lateness penalties which were caused by extenuating circumstances and which you feel should be cancelled (particularly any which I have said I would cancel but haven't).
The one exception to the first request is for question 2 on the August 3 -- 7 homework, for the following issue. The solution on the course page proceeds by computing an auxiliary integral, which is certainly one way of solving the problem. As many of you noticed, it is also possible to proceed by taking real and imaginary parts. However, to equate real and imaginary parts one needs to know which quantities are real and which quantities are complex; the equation a + bi = c + di only implies that a = c and b = d when all four quantities are known to be real (after all, i*i = 0 + i*i = -1 = -1 + 0*i, but this doesn't mean that -1 = 0 or i = 0!). In order to get full marks on this problem using this method, one needed to be very clear about which integrals were real, and why. This should explain most of the issues that have been raised on this question; if you do still have concerns about your mark, please reach out to me again, explaining why the above does not address your concern.
I will be submitting course marks later on today, though they might not be available until tomorrow because of other processing that must be done. After course marks are posted I will release the Crowdmark results for the final, and make one last announcement regarding procedures for requesting a remark of the final.
(I know that this request will catch some of you in the middle of the night -- I apologise and will certainly not hold that against you! Just please let me know if anything needs changing as soon as you are able.)
Please let me know if you have any questions.
