I have fixed a few of the practice problems: 12(b), by adding a factor of sqrt(3) (I should add that I think the original problem can be solved by evaluating the integral of e^(ix^3)/... in two different ways, one closing in the upper half-plane, the other in the lower half-plane, but that is much more complicated than what I intended), and the trigonometric integral problems (13 -- 15), by changing cos(cos t) in the numerators of (c) and (d) to cos t, and by scrapping part (e). I think the original problems could be solved by summing an infinite series of residues, but that is far more complicated than what I had intended.
I have also posted solutions to the July 27 -- 31 homework (available here) and August 3 -- 7 homework (available here). Please let me know if you have any questions!
Remember that the final assessment will be on Crowdmark this Saturday (August 22) from 9.00 AM to 12.00 noon EDT. Anyone who needs to write the final assessment at an alternate time for a valid reason (needing more time to study unfortunately does not count) should really have already contacted me some time ago, but at any rate needs to contact me by no later than tomorrow (Thursday) evening EDT. I may not be able to accommodate requests received after that. (I will respond to requests already sent later on this evening.)
As you review, please bear in mind that on the final assessment you are only allowed to use the following materials: the course textbook (either the typescript or an online scan which you have found and bookmarked); lecture notes by Nathan (see here) or Matt (see Quercus); any other material on or directly linked to from the course webpage; and any notes you have written yourself. You are not allowed to use any other resources. In particular, and without limiting the foregoing, this means that you are specifically NOT allowed to use any of the following:
-- Any other website, or online resource of any sort;
-- Any kind of integral calculator, or other calculator;
-- Any online resource not explicitly listed above which you have downloaded beforehand.
For greater clarity, you are also specifically NOT allowed to use an online search engine (e.g., Google, DuckDuckGo, etc.) for any purpose at any point while writing the assessment, including searching for the course webpage or an online copy of Goursat. You must be able to find any allowed resources you wish to use without a search engine.
Use of an unauthorised aid constitutes an academic offense. If you have any questions about what is or is not allowed, please ask me in advance of the assessment.
As you review, I highly recommend that you make an index for yourself of useful materials (notes, textbook sections, assignment solutions, etc.) which will allow you to rapidly find information. For example, the review sheet has a fairly comprehensive list of topics covered in the second part of the course; one way of making such an index would be to write for each topic a list of resources which you find especially relevant to that topic, so that if you find a problem on the final assessment that is related to that topic you will already know where to go to find information if you get stuck.
I will have office hours today at 7.00 as previously announced.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Nathan
