The vote has produced a Yes result by a majority of at least 81 to 48 (see below for details) so the new marking scheme is now in effect and there will be no more quizzes.
It has come to my attention that Monday may not be an ideal day for the assignments to be due. To address this, in the future assignments will be posted by Saturday morning, and designed so that they can be completed by the next Saturday if desired, and this week's assignment will be due on Tuesday, June 2 instead of Monday, June 1, still at noon EDT.
Assignments are to be uploaded on Crowdmark (the portal is not yet up). They are due at the stated due date. There will be a 3%/minute penalty attached to late submissions, meaning that the mark will reduce to 0 after about a half hour. Please do not put your submission off to the last moment! I will not accept e-mailed assignments except in extremely unusual circumstances.
I think I have come up with a way, at least in theory, to give practice problems which will hopefully be useful while still preserving my course philosophy. For this week, the problems and quizzes from last week, as well as the notes (these should be accessible to students in both sections), should provide useful guidance.
Matt will work on setting up a Piazza board and one or the other of us will advise when this is ready.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Nathan
About the poll:
As some of you may have noticed, I made a mistake setting up the poll for my lecture section and accidentally opened it to both lecture sections. This means potentially some votes could be doubles (and if anyone did in fact vote twice there is no need to feel bad about it, it was my fault for not setting things up more clearly!). Fortunately this would not have affected the outcome. The original poll had 81 yes, 36 no, 5 no answers, and the LEC0101 poll had 36 yes, 7 no; so even if we disregard all of the LEC0101 Yes votes as potential doubles, but keep all of the No votes and include the no answers in them, we are still 81 yes to 48 no and the change goes through. Thus there will be no more quizzes but only homework assignments.
