I hope this is the last time I will bother you with an announcement for today! (Though since tomorrow starts in about one and a half hours by Toronto time that might not actually end up meaning much!) I am still working through quiz-related e-mails but will get back with all of you as soon as I can. In the meantime, the pre-class lecture notes which I wrote in preparation for today's lecture are available here. What we talked about today corresponded to section 7 in these notes; we will talk about sections 5 and 6 (which are fairly straightforward) on Thursday. It would also be helpful to read sections 6 and 7 of Goursat.
To clarify about the quiz: owing to some communication failures on my part there was confusion among the teaching team as to whether writing solutions on tablets was allowable. So just to clarify: if you can access your writing app without the possibility of accidentally seeing unallowed aids, you are welcome to use it to write up the solutions to the quizzes and tests.
I got a request to upload additional sections of Goursat. The short answer is I have not yet typed them and will of course upload them as soon as I have. On the other hand what I have typed is already a good week or two ahead of where we are in the class so far. Also, there are digital copies available online from reputable places (HathiTrust, for example), since the book is out of copyright (at least in the US and Canada).
For Thursday's class it would be good to read sections 5 and 6 of the notes linked to above as well as to at least look through sections 8 and 11--13 of Goursat. We will probably pass somewhat lightly over the more theoretical parts of section 8.
Please let me know if you have any further questions! Particularly I think there may have been some questions which came up in the chat which I did not address -- I apologise for that, please let me know if there are any issues which you are still concerned about.
There will be office hours tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3PM and then either at 2PM or 4PM (I'm not quite sure yet). I hope to send out the permanent office hour schedule tomorrow as well, I am sorry it has taken so long to get it together.
Finally, lecture will be on Collaborate only from now on. Today's recording should be available under the 'Recordings' section (I haven't checked yet but I didn't do anything to keep it from showing up there that I am aware of) in case anyone missed it due to the switch of platforms.
