All,

Review notes on multivariable calculus and linear algebra are available here. These ended up being a bit longer than I expected. I would hope that most of what is in them is familiar enough that you will be able to read through them quite quickly. Please let us know if you have any questions about the material covered!

I will also put up some practice problems on these topics later on today and send out an announcement when it is done.

The full syllabus is also now available here, and is linked to from the home page on Quercus.

I have gotten some questions about the marking scheme for the course. It is unusual and slightly complicated so here is an attempt to clarify:

-- The course will be broken into 10 parts corresponding to the 10 quizzes.

-- The term test (in June) will cover the first 5 parts and the final assessment (in August) will cover the last 5 parts. (Much of the material in the last 5 parts will build on material in the first 5 parts, of course.)

-- We will determine for every quiz whether your work represents a 'serious attempt'. This will get clarified as time goes on, but basically I want to see that you were really trying to solve the problem rather than blowing it off.

-- In the event that your work on a certain quiz showed a serious attempt, and that your mark on the corresponding part of the term test or final assessment was higher than your mark on that quiz, then your mark on that part of the term test or final assessment will replace the mark on the quiz. Otherwise the two will be combined, with the test part weighted 0.4 and the quiz part weighted 0.6.

I hope that helps clarify -- please let me know if you have any further questions!
