Apologies for making three announcements in one day. This one relates to time zones, not mathematics.
Since many of us have now left Toronto for various parts of the globe, I wanted to make sure we are all synchronised properly. Toronto is presently on Eastern Daylight Time, which is four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, or UTC). Thus, for example, as I write this it is approximately 6:52 PM EDT, or 10:52 PM GMT. Unless otherwise mentioned, you should assume that all times and dates given for this course are in EDT. (In particular, there was an error in some previous announcements regarding the final exam which indicated it would be 1.30 to 5.30 EST -- local Toronto time was intended, which should have been EDT.)
(The above information is from this Wikipedia page and the US Naval Observatory's Master Clock.)
For the benefit of those of you who are on the other side of the planet from Toronto right now, I am thinking of holding an office hour Wednesday from 10.00 to 11.00 PM EDT (Thursday 2.00 to 3.00 AM GMT). If anyone would be interested in attending at this time, please let me know (a short e-mail saying nothing more than 'I would be interested in the 10.00 PM office hour' is quite sufficient).
That should be it from me for today. Let me know if you have any questions!
Nathan
